One caddie, two U.S. Open loops: Lexi Thompson puts Bryson DeChambeau’s caddie on the bag in Houston

Lexi Thompson will have a familiar face on the bag at this week’s U.S. Women’s Open. Familiar, at least, on the PGA Tour.

Bryson DeChambeau’s caddie, Tim Tucker, will loop for Thompson at Champions Golf Club in Houston. Thompson and DeChambeau share the same agent, Brett Falkoff, and he helped connect the two, according to Thompson’s father, Scott.

DeChambeau won the U.S. Open at Winged Foot in dominant fashion. Could Thompson make it a rare (perhaps historic?) U.S. Open double for Tucker?

Thompson, 25, is still in the market for a full-time replacement caddie after her regular looper, Benji Thompson (no relation), went to work for Kevin Chappell on the PGA Tour.

For perspective, consider that Chappell has won $16 million since he became a PGA Tour rookie in 2011, winning one time. Thompson has just over $10 million in career earnings and 11 titles since she joined the tour in 2012.

Thompson had her brother, Curtis, on the bag when she last competed at the Pelican Women’s Championship. Curtis won on the Korn Ferry Tour earlier this year and will caddie for his sister again at next week’s CME Group Tour Championship, where Lexi won with Curtis on the bag in 2018.

Thompson has yet to win on the LPGA this season, with her best finish, a solo fourth, coming at the ANA Inspiration. This week marks Thompson’s 14th consecutive U.S. Women’s Open appearance. She finished runner-up to Jeongeun Lee last year at the Country Club of Charleston.
